I know. What's so special about Irish Coffee? Isn't it just a mug of weak Joe, with a shot of whiskey tossed in, topped with aerosol whipped cream?
Under most circumstances, I'd agree with you. But, the Irish Coffee at Fort Defiance in Red Hook, Brooklyn is a whole other animal. We're talking serious espresso, Power's, simple syrup, hot water, and a float of thick cream. I don't even presume to understand the alchemy that happens behind the bar in order to make this elixir so G-d damned delicious, but trust me: It is G-d damned delicious. It is freakin' incredible.
It is the Irish Coffee that will forever make you want to smack those pathetic mugs of "faux" Irish Coffee out of sad souls' hands -- and let them know that leprechauns may be fiction, but truly fantastic Irish Coffee does indeed exist.
Or maybe it's best to let those pitiful folks be, so there'll be more room at the bar at Fort Defiance.
Great Irish Coffee??? You'd have better luck finding a pot of gold at the end of rainbow!
