Chewing over politics is always best on a full stomach. So when Sir and Lady M invited me over to their LES apartment to watch the Democratic presidential debate, I was happy to join them in watching the political spectacle and partake in Sir M's spicy Shrimp Gumbo, studded with Andouille sausage and okra.
Listening to the candidates, we couldn't resist shouting out snarky commentary during their tepid back-n-forth. Yet, we remained hopeful - and grabbed second helpings of the Cajun stew.
All in all, there weren't any real winners or losers this evening on the political front, but our tastebuds definitely came out ahead. Sealing the deal was the mammoth two-layer cake I baked for the occassion, dense layers of banana cake filled with addictive peanut butter frosting, bathed in a vanilla buttercream and surrounded by crunchy bits of honey roasted peanuts.
As the cake's chief architect and strategist, I have to admit it's a winning combination.
Now there's a ticket I think we can all get behind!
